The last collection of garden waste will be on your normal day starting on Monday 15th August.#
This will be the last collection this year and collections probably wont be returning next year 2023.
Dear Resident,
Thank you for your patience while the garden waste service has been suspended.
Unfortunately, we write to bring you further disappointing news.
In light of the unprecedented budget pressures that the Council is now experiencing, we have taken the very difficult decision to end garden waste collections for 2022 early.
We will be making one further collection of garden waste starting on Monday (15 August).
Over the next fortnight please put your garden waste bin out for collection on your usual day. You can check when your collection is due on our website.
We understand how disappointing this will be and we're sorry for the inconvenience this may cause.
We have not taken the decision lightly but we are facing a serious financial position. We announced last week that we are currently faced with a £13.6 million shortfall in our in-year budget. This is due in large part to circumstances beyond our control, not least rapidly rising energy costs.
We have to consider all options to reduce costs as the projected overspend far exceeds any reserves. By stopping garden waste collections now, we'll be saving around £200,000.
This decision does not affect your brown and green bin collections and no decisions have been made about next year’s garden waste collections.
We will be offering advice on home composting in the coming weeks and you will be able to continue to take garden waste to our recycling centres at Chelson Meadow and Weston Mill.
If you are making a trip to a recycling centre please consider also taking waste for friends, family or neighbours who don’t have access to a vehicle.
We apologise again for the inconvenience – we know it's not ideal – and thank you in anticipation for your understanding.
Best wishes,
